About Upgrading

Ensure the full version of the software is installed. If it is not, click the links below to access:

Download the issueserver.jar.ZIP or bugserver.jar file from the Website that corresponds to the product you are upgrading.

Upgrade Steps

The following steps outline the upgrade process. Please see our special installation notes as well.

Steps

1. Back up your existing installation before upgrading.
2. Stop running copies of the software. If the software is a service, stop it from the Services control panel. Do not unzip the file.
3. Ensure the file is named “issueserver.jar” and does not default to the “issueserver.jar.ZIP” name. If it does, rename the file to “issueserver.jar”.
4. Go to the directory in which you’re running the software. For example, on Windows, this is may be c:\Program Files\Fast IssueTrack or c:\Program Files\Fast IssueTrack.
5. Rename your existing issueserver.jar file if you wish to keep a copy of the old one.
6. Copy the issueserver.jar file that you download into the required directory.
7. Copy the issueserver.jar file that you download into the required directory.
8. Restart the software.
9. If you are not running the software as a service, you should see the updated version in your console.

Special Installation Notes

• New features can require changes to the main .CSS file, which can be customized. If you do not update file, you may notice alignment problems (however no functionality will be lost).
• The introduction of field controls in Alcea Fast BugTrack Version 4.0 changed the format of custom fields. If you are using he Anonymous Query or Anonymous Entry functionality, check your query/entry pages or custom field entry lines. If you have any, the field names changed from “name=X” to name=fieldX”.

Enterprise Special Instructions:
Enterprise customers must download the enterprisefit.jar file instead of the one listed below and rename it to issueserver.jar, or database connection is not possible. Simply change the URL below to reference enterprisefit.jar instead.

Enterprise notes: - Corrected Oracle schema as only 1 LONG is allowed in FBT_BUG_STRUCT_ENTRY
- Please see Version 6.0 changes below.

• Modify Page hierarchy problem fixed. Hierarchies now only show old values in children on the initial load of the modify issue page. The selected value was kept even if option did not match parent. Old values are kept on load of page in case they no longer exist. If they were not kept, the value would change to the default on every edit. This change means that as soon as the parent is modified, any old values which no longer exist, are no longer available.
• Reports now let you choose an empty set of row fields, even if your default is not empty.
• Detail Sections are now shown even if they only contain blank fields (which may have html).

Version 6.0 notes:
- Version 6.0 adds a complete history traceback feature that required format changes in the system data files. Therefore, it will no longer be possible to return to an older version after you begin using the new version, so we have removed all links to older versions.

Enterprise notes:
- Changes were made to the FBT_BUG_STRUCT_ENTRY table. Enterprise users will need to make the schema changes outlined in the following files:

• Saved Charts/Reports now have four filter options. (Relative,Absolute,None,previously saved filter). Default is Relative as it was before filters could be saved with the reports.
• Filters with Closed status properties, no longer have to be run first (after a restart), to work properly in saved Reports/Charts.
• When editing a filter, it is no longer saved unless you press a save button (allowing you to run the filter without saving it).
• Users in other groups are now visible if you are editing an issue that is assigned to a user in another group. (allows editing without changing assignee)

issueserver.jar (5.05 - January 28, 2005 - 1347570 bytes)

• Note: ParentId field can not be cleared with a blank. You must use the number 0, to clear it until a fix is released in Version 5.06
• Note: Major Enterprise system improvements.
• Reduced loading times. In some cases, bugs were being reloaded up to 3 times.
• Fixes problem with historical custom fields not showing up in history. (5.03 problem)
• New cacheing algorithm for keeping more data in memory for smaller bugs. This will improve search times (especially in Enterprise Version).
• To improve performance on Oracle systems, attachment sizes are no longer listed. Will add an option for this in the future.
